SOA Technology for your Finance Business-Monitor, Tech Talk October 2007
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems were introduced in the past few years of the 20th century to solve the problems of large manufacturing companies. They have met the challenge in many ways, enabling both the manufacturing companies and their software providers to grow larger and more profitable ERP systems, for the most part meet the needs they are uniquely suited to meet. On the other hand, outside of the manufacturing environment, few companies have those needs. More importantly, there are some needs that ERP systems were never intended to meet. In those cases, other types of enterprise-wide processing systems have been developed, uniquely suited to meet those other types of business needs. The finance business, for example, has begun to take advantage of newer technology to solve the problems of disparate processing systems, technology that are designed to make connecting them easier.

The theme was "Creating Value," but an extremely powerful guest arrived mid-event to disrupt the proceedings and alter the mood. This category-three hurricane, a force of nature that caused an estimated US$10bn in damage, was named Wilma. Many ELA members in attendance saw symbolism and a bit of irony in the arrival of Wilma. After all, the winds of change blowing through the equipment leasing industry have been powerful and chaotic as well in recent years.
